ImageIn recent months, Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification has refused classification, effectively banning, titles such as Fallout 3, Silent Hill: Homecoming, and Shellshock 2: Blood Trails. Eventually the aforementioned titles were allowed to be released, but only after edits were made. In the case of Fallout 3, those edits applied to all regions of the game.

Now, according to Gamasutra, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin has been refused classification, and the Australian Classification Board and Classification Review Board aren't saying why. Although I haven't played the game and can't speak on the potentially gory specifics, the finger is probably being pointed at "multiple scenes of dismemberment," the same reason for Silent Hill's ban. But if that's the case, how did Resident Evil 4 and Gears of War 2 slip by? We'll keep our eyes peeled to see if Warner Bros. makes the requisite changes to get their game out in Australia.

They promised it'd come, and now they're going to deliver. Bethesda has announced that the Fallout 3 "Garden of Eden Creation Kit" -- or in simpler terms, Fallout 3 mod tools -- will be released for free for the PC version of the game in December, allowing gamers to create and add their own content to the game.

Additionally, the first official downloadable content was also announced, which will arrive in January for the PC and Xbox 360 versions... but not the PlayStation 3. Two more DLC packs will follow in February and March, but no pricing details for the DLC were given.

The "G.E.C.K.," as Bethesda is calling the mod tools, will allow complete customization of Fallout 3, from building new locations to creating new characters, weapons, and creatures, and writing new dialogue. "We've always seen the original world of Fallout 3 as a foundation for even more content. Some created by us, and a lot more created by users," said Todd Howard, game director for Fallout 3. "It's fun to create your own character, but it can be equally fun to create your own adventures. We can't wait to see what the community does with the G.E.C.K." Anyone want to start a pool as to when the first nudie mod will be created?

As for the three DLC packs, they include the following:

Operation: Anchorage. Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe -- the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.

The Pitt. Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.

Broken Steel. Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.

Once again, the DLC will be exclusive to the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game, with no explanation provided for why the PS3 was left out. Is anyone else, from a purely consumer perspective, starting to get a little tired of platform-exclusive DLC?

ImageValve is currently celebrating the tenth anniversary of their seminal first-person shooter Half-Life, and they've taken the opportunity to temporarily drop the game's price on Steam to an astonishingly low 98 cents. Compared to the game's usual price of $9.99, that's roughly 90% off the standard cost of admission. Trust us, that's a deal you just won't find outside of, well, Tabula Rasa.

If you're looking for a nostalgic trip through Black Mesa -- or if you've somehow managed to miss out on this classic shooter over the past decade -- then this is your chance to take the plunge and find out exactly why the dark science of teleportation should never be explored. Interested parties need to act fast, however; the deal expires at noon PST on Friday, November 21.
