 The world of Stargate fandom let out a gasp today with the announcement that Stargate Atlantis will end this season, and yet continue on in a series of TV movies (story). Was it the ratings? Has the show been kicked to the curb in favor of Stargate Universe, the anticipated third series in the franchise? Is the franchise just running out of steam?
We took these questions to Brad Wright, who co-created Atlantis with Robert C. Cooper five years ago. In this frank and honest conversation, the executive producer answers all those questions, talks about the matter of blame, and shares why he believes that this is truly the best decision for Atlantis and for Stargate moving forward.

 New details have emerged on the first four episodes of Stargate Atlantis's new season, premiering this Friday at 10 p.m. (9 Central) on the SCI FI Channel in the United States!
SCI FI Channel has passed along the official episode teasers for "Search and Rescue," "The Seed," "Broken Ties," and "The Daedalus Variations." Of particular interest is "The Seed," for which very little information was previously known.
The network summaries leave plenty unspoiled, of course, but they do include significant info from the early part of the episodes. If you would rather watch the episodes completely unspoiled, turn back now.

GateWorld.net has posted a comprehensive background of the Stargate Atlantis series to date. This primer is tailor-made for new viewers, especially those who are joining our adventure for Season Five of Stargate Atlantis.
So what is Stargate? If you've made it this far, you probably already know part of that answer! We'll presume that you have a basic idea of the show's premise, and have at least heard of Stargate SG-1 -- the predecessor to Atlantis, which was spawned from the 1994 feature film and ran for 10 years (1997-2007). Stargate Atlantis is the spin-off of that show. The two ran concurrently for three seasons, and Season Four of Atlantis was its first year as the only Stargate show on the air.
